Dream Cruise Site Re-Launched

The Woodward Dream Cruise has re-launched their website. For the uninformed, the Dream Cruise is the biggest car event in the world, attracting more than 40,000 cars and more than a million and a half spectators. The whole point is to cruise up and down Woodward Avenue from Ferndale to Pontiac in an enormous, slow-moving procession, with the obligatory burnouts and macho posturing. It's great, a giant community event that is literally unbelieveable until you have seen it for yourself. I think it is the most fun thing that happens in Detroit.

It takes place every year on the third Saturday in August, which falls on the 20th in 2005, but people start driving around in earnest the whole week before. Typically the cops show up and close down the street at night when the traffic gets too heavy, and then it re-opens and people start driving around again. I have a cook-out every year, so here is an open invitation: if you are planning to attend the Cruise, stop by for a dog and some guacamole. I'm serious. If enough people RSVP we can roast a whole goat on a spit. We usually walk around all day and then start cooking around four, so come by at about five on the 20th and something will be ready to eat. Just let me know at howbourgeois @ gmail.com so I can get a head count.
