Dan Neil is my favorite auto writer, because he is a good writer to happens to be discussing cars, as opposed to being a car guy who can type. That is encouraging, because it means he will probably still be able to have a column about something after we run out of oil.*
It's a rare treat to read this brief essay about a bit of his life experience, written apparently without any literary context, that happened to turn up in the LA Times.
