George found some great old clips from the Lauren Welk show on (where else) Youtube. Unbelievably, he found a really crazy full dress tribute to the armed forces. This must have gone over really great in 1967. You have to remember they never let anyone under 50 into the studio audience, so there's universal applause. The whole effect is really bizarre in context with what was happening outside the studio at the time.
The second clip is 100% Polka. Dancing on TV with Lawrence Welk was considered a good job in 60s, better even than working in a brewery, putting your work glove on a beer bottle and waving to it as it rolled away on the bottling machine.
