HB Produce Thursday Presents: The Fig

That's right, the fig. You want to make something of it?

I realize the fig is a left-field choice, but they're so tasty and seedy. The link explains them way better than I could in a technical sense, but figs are so much more than calories and seeds. They are a historic fruit appreciated by the bible, and yet are still appreciated and used by people all of the world to dry and eat or make jams or stew with a chicken. Clearly the fig is versatile, and there is a reason it has been enjoyed for thousands of years:

Mmmmm...figs! At our old house, we used to have a fig tree in our yard - it was massive, and one year we canned 31 PINTS of fig preserves. Yep, that was one big ol' fig tree there!

My mom's favorite thing to do when visiting was to go out first thing in the morning, pick her figs and eat them right there for breakfast.

Figs are definitely a good choice!

And, who can pass up a Newton?
