Some from the Weekend So Far.....

Well, so far it's been a weekend of ups and downs. Today we had a nice time at the library and a nice dinner at my parent's house with my niece and nephew. The down part was that Noah has been having tantrums so both last night and tonight we had to cancel plans. Last night we left family shabbat 10 minutes after getting there. It's a 30 minute service for kids with songs and music, followed by a dinner together. Noah just wanted to walk all over the temple and when we asked him to at least stay in the chapel to walk and not the lobby during services, he freaked. So we went home... tonight he wouldn't sleep in his crib at my Mom's so Jon and I canceled date night. Oh well..maybe next year is how I sometimes feel. What I wouldn't give right now for a quick bite to eat and a leisurly trip to the bookstore or maybe a movie, that would be nice.

These pictures show a few things. That's my cat Bob. He's 17 years old! I also have Chloe, who's 18! I need to put her pic up. Look how curly Noah's hair is getting. It is all curly when it dries, but since it is still so thin, his hair flattens out at naptime. There is my stepfather on the couch with my niece Autumn and nephew Nathan. Autumn is five and Nathan is exactly one year older than Noah. Look at what a difference a year makes in the picture of Nathan and Noah. There is our dog Maddie looking very stoic. That's her wine glass by the way. There are also two pictures taken by Jon at the library today. Do you know that five people, parents and kids, called Noah a "she" today!? I know he's wearing pink, but come on, it's cool for guys to wear pink! Noah even got bumpy cake. Now that's a good day. I guess from the looks of Dad, it was a long day too .

Have you ever given your dog wine? We gave some to my beagle-freak dog and she started wheezing. She's a one-timer wino!

I just love Noah in PINK! Very posh!

And, it will get better...give him another few months and he'll be saying "Mommy who? Daddy who?" on date night!

Oh boy, I know what you're going thru. Just when we thought Cait was over seperation anxiety, it has started up again...full force. Now, she doesn't want to get dressed in the morning and throws a fit when I tell her it's time to go. What breaks my heart is when she cries in the car on the way to the sitter's house. :(

I'm sorry Noah wouldn't let you stay for Shabbat...I know how you feel...we were having major problems with Merry's listening skills. She would totally ignore me and do what I asked her not to do.
We read "The Strong-Willed Child" by Dr. James Dobson, and it helped so much.
As parents, we tend to ASK the child or PLEAD with the child to behave...instead, we need to demand good behavior from the child.
I will bring the book to church for you today...let me know what you think.

I don't think you can really demand good behavior from a 15-month old. My goal is generally to make it clear to him that if he's going to be disruptive we're leaving - ie not being able to stay is the consequence. I'm all for boundaries and effective discipline, but I'm not into Dobson's views on spanking your kids until they cry.
