A Jazz Song to Take You Somewhere Else

Unlike the fantasy of teleporters and time machines, music is real. And music, it has the unique, enviable ability to transport a person to another place, another time in just an instant!

If ever there was a song that so carried me on notes and melody, it would be Charles Mingus' "Far Wells, Mill Valley" from the 1959 album entitled: Mingus Dynasty.  This is a dramatic, expressive song, it's played in technicolor! The melodies change so often, that not even a person with the shortest of attention spans, could walk away. And, "Far Wells, Mill Valley" it's the very best song to dance to in your kitchen.

I can't find a reference to the tittle, but I've been to Mill Valley in Marin County, just north of San Francisco, and while it is one of the most lovely places I have ever visited, it doesn't remind me of this song. But, rather it takes me to a busy San Francisco of the 1950's, their beat generation- Neal Cassady, Allen Ginsberg and Lawrence Ferlinghetti, reading poetry at City Lights and sipping on espresso in Cafe Trieste, pencils in hand.

You need to hear the song in it's entirety to understand the full effect, but my favorite parts start at 2:30. Watch the video below, but if it doesn't play, please click on THIS direct LINK to see and hear.

Happy teleporting and listening and dancing!!!!
